Les Deux Alpes……

As you arrive during summertime to L2A along the bustling main street, you will see the winter ski area, now covered in beautiful alpine flowers, on both sides of the valley to your left and right. Straight ahead is the dramatic view of the still snowy mountain peaks which make up the nearby national park. All in all a stunning setting for this modern resort.

Les 2 Alpes is situated in the Isere region of France, conveniently located one hour east of the town of Grenoble. Just across the valley from L2A is Alpe d’Huez, and over the Col du Lauteret is Serre Chevalier – both of these resorts are included on the L2A summer six day lift pass as a day out for mountain bikers.

The glacier ski area of L2A reaches up to a staggering 3600m and is the largest skiable glacier in Europe. Perhaps surprisingly, most of the glacier terrain is not too challenging, so even first week beginners can enjoy the breathtaking views and motorway pistes on offer up there. L2A boasts the biggest and best snow park in the whole of Europe.

The resort itself is at 1650m.

Any non skiers will really love L2A. You can take the ‘red eggs’ lift from very close to Chalet Glacier up to 2,300m for lunch at a beautiful alpine mountain restaurant with sunny terrace. There is a walking path which starts near the chalet and arrives at the same restaurant, and the views of the valley below are breath taking. The ‘pedestrian pass’ gives access to the glacier for sight-seeing and also to the gondola down to the quaint old village of Venosc.

It is difficult to put into words just how many and varied are the activities available here in the summer. Many people are still oblivious to the wealth of activities that the alps have to offer during the warmer months. Once the snow has melted we are left with a summer paradise. Think of a sport and you can almost certainly do it here!!

To name just a few out of the over 100 activities available; 9 hole golf course, ice-skating, , dozens of outdoor trampolines, deval-karts, driving range, world class mountain biking, canyoning, horse riding, climbing walls, via ferrata, tennis (over 20 courts) white water rafting, five a side football games daily, quad biking, archery, bowling, hydro-speeding, fishing, volleyball, tree top adventure park, mini-golf, paintballing, hiking amongst stunning scenery, paragliding, road biking etc, etc! The luge summer sledging is our favourite for both children and adults. There is of course an outdoor swimming pool in the resort too.

For those who prefer a more leisurely pace L2A has beauty therapists & hairdressers for pampering, regular buses to Grenoble for sightseeing, museums in neighbouring hamlets and excellent marked paths of all grades for walking. As we are in the sunny southern Alps, there are plenty cafes with deckchairs for people- watching, relaxing and catching a few rays - you need never, ever be bored here!

L2A really comes alive at night. There are an enormous amount of bars to choose from, so there really is something to suit every taste - from pubs and nightclubs, winebars, to more intimate creperies and bars with open fires. (Often though, the chalet is just too comfortable, and after a full day of fresh mountain air, it’s simply too hard to drag yourself away to check out everything on offer in town!)

The final member of our team is our wee dog; he is a friendly and lively little dog, and naturally not allowed in the guest bedrooms.

Rod and Dianne, your hosts, live in the chalet.
